When did you first start CrossFitting?
What is your favorite movement? Favorite workout?
I enjoy rowing and jump roping. I also really loved the 12 days of Christmas workout.
What is your least favorite movement? Least favorite workout?

Tell us about your sports & fitness background:
I was an active kid and loved all sports and played basketball and tennis in high school.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Do you remember your first WOD? How did it go?
A coworker and I were talking about getting in shape and had heard about CrossFit. We joined the Weight Loss Bootcamp and came to the Saturday open WOD for an introduction. Let’s just say I couldn’t move for at least a week. The first few workouts were torture after living as a couch potato for years. Back then, if I didn’t cry, throw up, or die – it was a good session.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit? (before/after)
Since joining CrossFit, I have lost about 10 pounds and lots of inches. I feel stronger, leaner, and more fit than I have since high school. When I first started, I couldn’t even do an 800m without walking. But since then, I have done several 5K and obstacle course races!
What impact has CrossFit had on your life?
CrossFit has helped hold me accountable to a healthier lifestyle and made me feel more confident overall.
What is your favorite CrossFit/CFD moment?
I was groaning and complaining as Bea gave us instructions for a jump rope workout for the day. I was so frustrated because it had been over a year, and I still couldn’t do a double under. Despite my attitude, Bea urged me on and I gave it my best effort – and I did my first double under ever that day!
What is your advice for people just getting started or thinking about starting CrossFit?
Stick with it. The beginning is the worst, and you will be sore. But if you commit to coming on a regular basis, you will get fitter and stronger and meet some great people along the way.
What are your hobbies, interests, and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
I have 3 dogs and volunteer with the Animal Protection Society of Durham. I also love to read and enjoy exploring the next new place or event that Durham has to offer.
